1. Importance of fillet yield to the meat industry. The economic implications of meat trimmed from the whole weight of an animals are a serious concern for operators who must produce fillets (meat) of sufficent percent from the raw weight of meat of an animal to create a profit for the grower and the marketer of the meat. Fillets for the meat market must meet rigid specifications with a minimum amount of trim. Through this method, Cogeneticist that can make at least a 0.3% increase in meat yield each year in each of its high yielding products are adding significant profitability to the cultivation of the animal. Tilapia is now the most consistently profitable and fastest growing business in aquaculture, even though it is universally ignored by government, but even with the almost universal acceptance of tilapia is not being funded properly to expand at the needed speed to keep up with expanding demand. While 0.3% a year may sound small, over a ten-year period this can translate to an additional $35 million in profits per million pounds of whole animal processed each week. So, no matter what animal is being grown, a successful genetic approach to increasing the fillet yield by 0.3% or more will lead to higher profits, without significantly increasing cost.
2. This is especially true for the aquaculture industry in part because of the rapidly increases of value of aquaculture products. This is due to the constant unremmiting pressure on our natural resources of wild fish so that less are captured each year. And aquaculture is not capable of keeping up with even current demands because of the poor support from government in this country. The importance of the fillet yield to any part of the aquaculture industry will increase its profitability
3. The importance of increasing the fillet yield of the tilapia industry is no less than that of any other aquaculture animal. IT IS VIRTUALLY WORTH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR AS LOWER COST OF FEEDING AND INCREASED REVENUES, AS EACH ONE PERCENT OF INCREASE IN SKINLESS BONELESS FILLET MEANS AROUND $800,000,000 U.S.D. INCREASED REVENUE PER YEAR AND I HAVE IMPROVED THE YIELD FROM 24% IN 1960 TO A WHOPPING 50 % IN 2009.
THE TOTAL VALUE PER YEAR IS APPROXIMATLY $3,680,000,000 U.S.D. PER YEAR FOR ALL OF LIVE TILAPIA GROWN ON EARTH EACH YEAR. THAT IS THREE BILLION SIX HUNDRED EIGHTY MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS INCREASE IN TILAPIA REVENUES IN EACH YEAR.
NOT BAD FOR A LITTLE DUDE WHO HAS SPENT OVER 35 YEARS SELECTING IMPROVED BODY FORM TILAPIA.
Because of the higher production of tilapia that can be raised on farms increasing the fillet yield may be more important than any other fact.
Due to the incredibly successful breeding of the improved body form tilapia by Mike Sipe THE TILAPIA industry now has the chance to make a decision.
The main decision is between whether to achieve higher production of fillet from pennyfish (50%) or the current norm of growing sex reversed nilotica for a yield of only 31%.
The fact that it will cost three times as much to grow the nilotica as it cost to grow hybrid pennyfish, partly because of the improve fillet yield, but in addition to that since three pounds of tilapia nilotica need three times more feed to reach harvestable size and partly due to the that the pennyfish grow. Growth to a kilogram from a 10 gram fingerling pennyfish take only 34 weeks tilapia nilotica take 43 weeks which means that per acre per year pennyfish produce 10,000 one kilogram fish in 34 weeks in one acre of fertilized pond. this is 300 pounds per acre per week. the nilotica take 43 weeks to produce 10,000 pounds per acre which is 233 pounds tilapia nilotica per week per acre.
Pennyfish……….grow 300 pounds a week
tilapia nilotica… grow 233 pounds a week
So in a year Pennyfish grow 300 x 52 or ……..15,600 pounds of whole fish
in a year Tilapia nilotica grow 233 x 52 or …….12,116 pounds of whole fish
15,600 lbs.Pennyfish yield, 50% of 15,600 or 7,800 kilograms of skinless boneless fillet.
12,116 lbs. nilotica yields, 31% of 3,906 pounds of skinless boneless fillet.
So
the kilograms of fillets from pennyfish is 458 kilograms per week
the kilograms of fillets from nilotica is 280 kilograms per week
The total kilograms of fillets per year of pennyfish is 23,816
The total kilograms of fillets per year of t. nilotica is 14,560
15,600 kilograms of whole pennyfish cost 15,600*
EACH ONE PERCENT OF INCREASE IN SKINLESS BONELESS FILLET ACHIEVED MEANS AROUND $800,000,000 U.S.D. INCREASED TOTAL INCOME FOR THE WORLD TILAPIA NDUSTRY.
SO ANY CLIENT CAN INCREASE THEIR TOTAL INCOME BY USING MY BREEDERS BUT THEY HAVE TO TRY THEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS REAL, BECAUSE HOW ELSE WOULD THEY KNOW THAT MY BREEDERS WILL DO THIS FOR THEM?
